Munich - Hamburg
(by Franziska Szoldatits)

Since I changed my living place because of professional reasons I have travelled a lot by train between northern and southern Germany. I´m still very much connected to Munich where I was living for 4 years and where most of my friends live.

Travelling by train is in general very relaxing in comparison to driving by car. But sometimes I really dislike going by train. That is when I´m sitting next to a crying baby or when I do not find a place to sit.

Sometimes I observe funny or strange situations. That´s another thing that I like about going by train. This friday for example I was taking the train from Munich to Hamburg to make something which I postponed for a long time…

In the same car as I there was this Bavarian couple. Although I`m from Bavaria I had to listen very carefully in order to understand what they were talking about because they were communicating in a very strange dialect. They were travelling from Munich to Hannover to visit the Expo and were dressed in  traditional Bavarian clothes, I guess to promote the “Bavarian look” up in the north.
The man took off his shoes and socks in order to sleep a little bit...
After a while there came another couple, very elegantly dressed, that sat down next to the Bavarian couple. Looking at this funny mixture of people I thought that they are not going to say a word to each other. But after a few minutes they started talking. The second couple had the same dialect as the other one and they did not stop talking until I left the train. They found out that they come from the same area in Bavaria and that they even know the same people…

Crying children distracted my attention. Everytime I´m travelling by train there are some kids that are annoyed and start fighting and shouting. It´s not that I don`t like kids but sometimes it is too much…

I tried to concentrate on what was expecting me in Hamburg. After six years of trust, devotion and love I had to bring this to an end and open a new future for both of us but how?…
