Personal Profile

Jens Faulstich
Creative Writing Tutor (Cologne)

1. Your name, function and nearest train station:

Jens Andreas Faulstich
Creative Writing Tutor (Cologne)

My nearest train station is Bruehl, a beautiful small-town station facing Augustusburg Palace, a splendid baroque building documenting the past grandeur of the Cologne archbishops. During the summer, the regular commuters are haunted by herds of tourists on their way to Phantasialand, a local leisure and adventure park. During the winter, the commuters are haunted by colds caused by the exposure to the wind and the rain..., furthermore, the service Cologne-Bonn is notorious for serious delays - especially during peak times.

2. your favourite (train) station & activities on trains:

To any CONNECT member, Waverley Station (Edinburgh) should be one of the most fascinating stations in Europe. Its very name links modern traffic to historical fiction (Walter Scott?s famous Waverley Novels); the link between the trains and the stories is strengthened by the fact that the neo-gothic Walter Scott Monument is just a five minute walk away. Unfortunately, the station is very ugly. ;-)

One of my favourite activities on trains is reading, of course. Sometimes I read my own books, sometimes I read someone else?s newspapers (upside down if necessary) - and if I am traveling through a very scenic part of a region, I look out of the window every now and then.

3. your mission & vision:

I would like to contribute to the development of many different stories told from various perspectives (and in different places!) - giving background information, communicating our workshop activities to others, providing a stimulating work atmosphere, documenting the results of our joint efforts, ... My vision is a complex and coherent European web novel.

4. arrivals and departures: (where you are and where you want to go to, private and / or professional):

After completing my first academic degree (M.A. in English Literature) and the certificate "Teaching German as a Foreign Language" I am currently writing a PhD dissertation at Bonn University (English Literature). If I am not in the library or in front of my computer, maybe I am in one of your classrooms - as I am doing some teaching for various institutions, too.
