We left the "Media-Park" to get to the main-station by train. |

We met in the launch of the main-station and got a small introduction about our teamwork by our guide. |

11.16 a.m.
|
Mr. Garms, a retired officer of the main station , showed us the "real"center station, the rooms and the catacombs under the main-station. First we saw the full-automatic luggage-locker and the new ticket-machine where passengers can pay by credit-card. |

11.25 a.m.

At the entrance there is a main service point. It is the first point for travellers to get information about their journey.Besides there are a lot of shops in the entrance hall. For example there are flower shops, a body shop, a hairdresser and so on. In total 10.000 m2 big area are 65 shops, which gave 500 people new jobs. The length of the station is 200 x 90 metres. |

Mr. Garms gave us historical dates and further economical information. Every day 1.300 trains and 300.000 passengers pass the station. The renovation in 1999 cost 200 million Mark. |

We visited the so called "new" catacombs. The main function to supply the shops with different goods. Often in winter they open the catacombs for homeless peoples. |

The control service center gave us a view behind the "backstage" of the station including the security-system which was built in June `99. In total they have 45 cameras and they can control every train station from Düsseldorf to Koblenz including the stations in the Eifel. |

12.25 p.m.

After all we "dived" into the "old" catacombs where the Mitropa company supply food for the different trains, for example the First class Metropolitan train or the Talis train which includes the first and the second class. Every month they need 14.000 menues of food in the Metropolitan train. |
